| Dimensions | I have used hydro flasks for years for two reasons. No 1. Drinks stay hot or cold for hours, and 2. Because they do not leak. That being said, I am very disappointed in this hydro flask. Its awful. It comes with some kind of plug that prevents me from taking a drink. Ok. The directions to remove this strange looking plug (I don’t know what else to call it). I removed the plug thing and now it leaks, bad. When the lid is turned to the closed position, it leaks out fast. So, I literally cannot take it in the car because it leaks. It also, I guess because it isn’t completely plugged, my coffee gets cold quickly compared to other flasks I have. |

One warning: if you make your coffee in the morning and then close up the mug, you can’t drink it until noon. I make my coffee in the French press, pour it I to the mug, and leave the top off as I get ready for work. When it’s time to leave, the coffee is still very hot, but not scalding. Hot or cold, this mug will retain the temperature all day. |
| Color | I have mixed feelings about this product, tainted partly by a disappointing buying experience. I saved this to my wish list and purchased from there, which, as best as I can determine made the purchase from a different seller and it took a full week to arrive, even though the listing I saved from said two days. Also the color I received is not accurately pictured in this listing. I got a bright fluorescent pink rather than the muted hibiscus shown in the listing I saved. That’s not part of my product review, but it does influence my feelings about it so I’m just admitting that up front.The product itself gets a mixed review. I have several Hydroflask containers with different kinds of lids. I even have another of these coffee containers so liked it enough to to purchase another for my husband. I also have a different brand, a very high priced brand, that has a similar version of the 12 oz. coffee mug, so can compare three types of lids. Each has its own pros and cons and the winner depends on your use and priorities. Following are my three comparisons…1. Hydroflask 12 oz. with flip cap. Only weighs a little over 8 oz. and doesn’t leak unless the cap gets flipped open. So this works fine in a car holder or on the desk and could work in the outside pocket of a backpack, possibly even inside a pack if it could be packed vertically and won’t be jostled. Maybe a plastic bag would be a good idea for that, just in case. This one is easy on, easy off, simple one handed operation and simple to clean. It’s thinner than other caps, so doesn’t retain the liquid temperature as long as others.2. Hydroflask 12 oz. with flex lid. Weighs a little over 10 oz and when properly assembled it does not leak. This cap is a little thicker than the flip cap so it provides better insulation but also makes the mug a little bit taller. You can toss it in any bag with confidence it isn’t going to leak, no matter what it’s position or how much jostling happens. The biggest downfall to this design is cleaning. You have to dismantle the top for cleaning every time it is used and while not a terribly difficult process, it can be tedious. There are 4 parts that must be disassembled and reassembled in the proper order (check it out on you tube if you want to see it). There is a red silicone gasket that has to be seated precisely in position or the whole thing is off and doesn’t work right. That said, I can do it easily, but it gets annoying after a while. And, I think it could be challenging for anyone with cognition or dexterity deficits to get it right. (For reviewers who think this lid leaks, make sure it is properly assembled. Check out a YT video. You can probably fix it. I’m guessing 99% of the time, any leaks are due to user error.). Also this lid has a nice light-weight handle which doesn’t matter much to me, but the little “ears” that hold it on are incredibly helpful when twisting the lid open to drink or for disassembly.3. There is the other brand, which I have thoroughly reviewed elsewhere. But for comparison, this other brand weighs in at just under 15 oz and is significantly heavier and larger than the Hydroflask even though it holds the same 12 oz. The no leak lid there is easier to disassemble (only two parts that easily unscrew) for cleaning than this one (which is why I bought it first) but it is so darn heavy, and so big, I just don’t like to lug it around. Not to mention, due to the configuration of the lid, it bumps my nose when I drink. Mostly I use the little flip cap, but when I want something I can throw in my bag without care I use the flex cap. As for the other brand, it is mostly an expensive paperweight for me at this point. I threw it in the trunk of my car in case I’m out and caught without a cup someday, but really Hydroflask is my choice when I’m planning for my daily use. |
| Material | Y’all, this retains heat better than any travel mug I’ve ever used, and it’s not even close. I don’t always get to finish my coffee in the morning at work due to the nature of my job, so I usually end up drinking it over the course of a few hours. It is always still hot, and I mean HOT, when I get back to it. Seriously, I sometimes need to take the lid off for a bit when I get to work because it’s still piping hot. It’s impressive, and the Watermelon color is the perfect shade of fuschia.The only gripe I have is that the lid is kind of a pain to clean, since it’s made up of four (4!?) pieces that you need to take apart each time. It doesn’t get clean enough with just a rinse imo, but the lid works so nicely and is so comfortable to sip from that I don’t mind the effort. But they also make flip lids as an alternative, if that sounds more appealing. Either way, this purchase has been money well spent for me so far. |

The other reviews said that the lid leaked but I figured they must have gotten defective ones because Hydro Flask makes a great product. Sad for me but the lid leaks. Taking the three piece lid apart and putting it back together is a complicated affair if you are in a bit of hurry to get out the door. Lol All that would be fine if the lid didn’t leak. A more simple lid would make so much more sense. It does keep the coffee hot so I am going to buy a different lid and make it work. It is disappointing though. |
