It does a super job at keeping things cold. Then one day the unthinkable happened.My husband was in a car crash, totalled his car. When the phone rang he told me he was fine but his bottle was gone. It had somehow gotten lost in the accident. He wasn’t worried about himself or the car but about his bottle.So here I am, ordering a replacement bottle. | Model Number | I like that this bottle does not leak when it lies on its side…that is huge. I also like that it is insulated, so it doesn’t “sweat,” and it keeps my water cold for a long time. While the bottom of the bottle is easy to wash, the lid is not (I use the spout-cap lid). I have subtracted a star because the smallest silicone ring which is present on the inside of the spout-cap comes loose frequently, especially when washing the bottle, and it could very well be lost, thus jeopardizing the “leak-proofness” of the bottle. Additionally, after having this bottle for only about a month, I noticed that a chip had already appeared in the aqua-colored coating. I would have given it 3.5 stars, but only 3 or 4 stars were options, so I gave it 4. |

Distributed by Drinco Inc., a 2018 startup of California, at the time of this update is sold here by a Drinco storefront with a positive customer feedback of 86% and 90% in the last 30 and 90 days.SPECSLike others of its type, this is a copper plated, 340-grade (18/8) stainless steel double wall, vacuum flask. Its insulation derives from [ i ] the vacuum within the walls, which reduces both thermal conduction and convection, since diffusion of internal energy needs a stage of matter; and [ ii ] the copper plating of the inner wall’s vacuum-side, which reduces thermal radiation, since the emissivity of copper coatings is lower than that of cold-rolled steel walls. In a perfectly insulated flask, its outer surface temperature should not depend on that of its inner surface, provided the flask is kept opened (to avoid conduction via a lid with less insulation, if any at all, than the bottle walls), in a ventilated place (to avoid convection via stagnant air), and on an thermally insulated surface (to avoid heat transfer via the flask’s base) such as a thick cork pad.The top and bottom left panels of my first figure show results of such test after filling the flask with 15 oz of water at 37°F (top) or at 171°F (bottom). The surface temperature was measured using a non-contact IR thermometer perpendicular to the wall at a height of 4″ from the base; as a rough control, I also placed a (much less accurate) wine thermometer in tight contact to the surface by the tension of elastic bands attached to its cuff ends. The insets show temperature of the water (round dial) and of the room (square display) at the time of the respective measurements. One hour after filling the flask –kept at 70°F prior each filling– the cold water decreased its outer surface temperature by ~1°F, while the hot water increased it by ~5°F.- Day-long temperature preservation. The flask was filled ~2/3 with ice pieces and then non-refrigerated water was added up to 2″ from the rim. It remained on a plastic surface away from direct sunlight; the lid was closed between measurements. The panels of my second figure show water temperature data at the times indicated by a 12-hour count-up device also displaying the room temperature and relative humidity. The figures show that the undisturbed ice lasted for at least 34 hours. The ice pieces clumped together sometime between 24 and 34 hours, and all the ice melted sometime between 34 and 49 ours. Even after 50 hours, the water was still cold (47°F/8°C), though not as much as during the initial 34 hours (37°F/3°C).The first test shows a small but non-trivial degree of heat transfer across the walls, which is greater for the hot than the cold water — a difference likely due to the greater departure from room temperature of the hot water, and the fact that the greater the difference, the greater the rate at which heat transfers. These data show that cold contents will keep cold longer than hot contents will keep hot, as claimed by the seller. I was pleasantly surprised by the unexpected room-temperature data of the second test, which were definitely better than those from my smaller Takeda flask (though I do not know how comparable the data sets are due to volume differences).SAFETYThe copper plating, deposited on the vacuum-side (and not the contents-side) of the inner wall presents no health risk. In contact with acidic solutions, ordinary 304 steel releases a tiny amount of its 8%+ of nickel. That does not elicit a reaction in those sensitized to this metal, but keep in mind that hot and more acidic solutions used for cleaning may release more nickle, which might be an issue for such people. Household bleach stains or corrodes stainless steel and should not be used.WARRANTYThe packing box I got had care and use instructions (with typos like “ware” for warm) and a vague blurb about the warranty, which provide *no* information on its type, duration, or terms (but for exclusions of “alternation [sic] or accident”). At the time of this writing, the Warranty & Support link in this page recommends contacting the seller (Drinco), which does not seem much of a solution since the word “warranty” is absent from the accessible parts of the dot-com website of Drinco. Thus, when currently buying this bottle you do so without knowing what rights, if any, the warranty provides you, and once Amazon’s return window closes, all you have is Drinco’s claim of being “committed to providing 100% satisfaction.” The lack of a proper disclosure of the warranty terms violates the FTC’s Rule on Pre-Sale Availability of Written Warranty Terms (cf. 16 C.F.R. Part 702).When I first criticized the absence of an available warranty, a comment posted to the review by a Drinco rep acknowledged the problem and said it would be resolved. But both caps leak so you must keep it upright. It also had a strong chemical residue that did not wash away with two thorough washings – first time I drank from it, it made me sick. I then filled it with soda (phosphoric acid), let it sit for three days and then washed it twice more. Seems ok now. |

These are the bad plastics. The stainless steel keeps my water colder longer, I like that because I like ice cold water. I tried a glass water bottle but when I start my walks soon I feel like I might drop the bottle to cause it to break, plus it sweats, another thing I like about the Drinco water bottle it doesn’t sweat.
